Sweet temptations a hit

VISITORS to the Swan Valley expect to sample wines and visit restaurants while taking in the sights of the state’s oldest viticultural area. But these days the Swan Valley offers much more than that and tourists and residents alike can enjoy French macarons, nougat, gourmet nuts, cakes, handmade chocolate and honey while touring the area. This week a Swan Valley Sweet Temptations Trail, which also includes the opportunity to try fortified wines and sparkling moscato produced by third and fourth generation Swan Valley wine makers was launched. The trail has eight venues including a picnic spot at Maali bridge park on the banks of the Swan River. If visitors arrive in the Swan Valley from Reid Hwy or Gnangara Rd they can start their journey on Great Northern Hwy at the House of Honey and finish up at Pinelli Wines in Caversham. From Midland or Guildford they can start at Maison Saint-Honore, which offers homemade French macrons, including a macron icecream sandwich, and Pinelli Wines before ending their journey at Morish Nuts and Mondo Nougat in Herne Hill. In between they can visit Swan Valley Café and Olive Farm Winery in Millendon. This week participants in the Swan Valley Sweet Temptations Trail enjoyed macron tasting with Maison Saint-Honore owner Alex Lui-van-Sheng and moscato tasting with Daniel Pinelli from Pinelli Wines. Next they enjoyed nut tasting with Morish Nuts manager Jenny McNamara and sampling the nougat made at Mondo Nougat with owner Andrea Romeo. At the House of Honey they tasted honey, ice cream and mead with owners Rupert and Kim Phillips. While at the Swan Valley Café they enjoyed small bite tasting, on-site-blended teas and assorted lattes. They tasted fortified wine and gourmet chocolate at Olive Farm Wines with cellar door saleswoman Gemma Barnes.   What are you waiting for? Get set to experience the best of the best on the Sweet Temptations Trail, a mouthwatering artisan adventure for the palate.
