Morish Fremantle Markets was delighted to welcome South African surfski star Hayley Nixon. Hayley recently competed in the Perth Doctor Ocean Paddle, taking the win with a time of 2:09:22.1 and awarded the 2016 World Surfski Series title. Congratulations Hayley! The Doctor in Perth, WA is Australia’s most exciting ocean paddling event from Rottnest Island to Sorrento Beach covering 27kms. Some may be familiar with the Fremantle Doctor, the Freo Doctor or simply the Doctor. During the summer months, the Fremantle Doctor is a cooling afternoon sea breeze in the south west coastal areas of Western Australia, occurring because of the major temperature difference between the land and sea. The Fremantle Doctor consistently blows from the South-West along the southern half of the west coast, starting between noon and 3pm bringing welcome relief from the summertime high temperatures in Perth and its suburbs. The Fremantle Doctor name was in use as early as the 1870s and was similar to equivalent terms for winds that occurred in South Africa and the West Indies. Hayley commented; “the Perth Doctor win and clinching the World Surfski title is a career highlight after a decade on international rowing, canoeing and now surfski racing”. Following her amazing championship win, Hayley stopped by to refuel on her Champion’s Choice of Morish Nuts…! Images below feature Hayley at Morish Fremantle Markets and with her championship trophy.
